Whadaap, Whadaap? It’s the Polo-meister aka ‘blockchain boy’ akaka the future mayor of Plutoverse. I’m back at it again with more blockchain content for ya faces, and today I’mma be teaching ya how to purchase an NFT on the Polygon network.

As mentioned in my last article, Polygon is a side chain built off Ethereum network technology. It offers faster transactions and much (MUCH) cheaper gas fees. The marketplace Opensea has recently opened up capability to list NFT projects on the Polygon network, making it a lot more affordable for new blockchain enthusiasts that want to partake in the ecosystem. That said, It does take a few (..lol) more steps to make purchases, but it’s worth it to not have to spend equal parts NFT cost and gas fees. So without further adieu..

…Here is how you buy an NFT on Polygon!

First thing you will need to do is load up some Matic token into your Metamask wallet. Matic is the token native to the Polygon Blockchain, in the same way Ethereum is the token native to the Ethereum Blockchain. For some reason the Polygon developers never changed their Token name when rebranding to Polygon. If you don’t have any Matic token, don’t panic, you can either swap over some of your existing crypto to Matic using Quickswap, or purchase some at one of your friendly neighbourhood exchanges and send it over to your wallet.

hmm.. just realized that i’m prob gonna have to make an article for that one. soon enough, soon enough.

Once you got some Matic in your wallet your gonna need to transfer it into WETH (Wrapped Ethereum). Wrapped Eth is basically Ethereum that can live on the Polygon chain. I know, I know.. it’s strange b/c we just got ourselves some Matic and now we gotta change it to a whole other token, but that’s just the way Opensea operates and i ain’t got the time to take it up with them

We’re gonna head back over to Quickswap and do a quick exchange. Follow the screenshots below.

STEP 1: CONNECTING THE WALLET!

1. Go to Quickswap.exchange

2. Click “Connect to a wallet”.

3. Click on your chosen wallet of choice.

4. If you have been following past Plutoverse articles it is likely Metamask.

5. Press on “Next”.

6. Click Connect.

STEP 2: SETTING UP THE SWAP

***Quick disclaimer before moving forward.

Because this will be our first swap, I’m suggesting you swap over a very small amount of Matic. Just in case there are any hiccups along the way. The great thing about being on the Polygon chain is that the gas fees are very low so trading even ‘1’ Matic will not cost us very much in total.

Once you have done this a couple times, and you feel more comfortable you’re more than welcome to transfer over larger amounts. But just so there aren’t any surprises, let’s start with a small amount.

Finally, AND MOST IMPORTANT (no like seriously don’t skip over this part) be sure to always leave a small amount of Matic in your wallet to cover gas fees (1–2 tokens should be more than enough for where fees are to date),

Ie. If you plan on converting 2–3 Matic to WETH, make sure you have 5 Matic stored in your wallet total.

Alright! Now that we got that covered. Let’s move forward

Here we are.. connected to the Polygon Network and ready to do our first swap. WOOT! To make sure we are swapping to the proper coin.

1. Click on the “Select a token” option under the “To” section.

2. Now we will begin to type in the word Ethereuem… E..t…h.. Damn that was quick. Alright, let’s click on the word “ETH”.

3. Noice!

STEP 3: SWAPPING THE TOKEN

1. Under the ‘From’ section, type in the amount of Matic you would like to convert (we’re gonna transfer 2 Matic) into WETH.

2. Once done click the blue “Swap” button

3. Click “Confirm Swap”.

4. Metamask will now show you a breakdown of the expected gas fees. In my case it’s about 2 cents. I know right??? What did I tell you? Eth gas fees eat your heart out.

5. If you’re cool with your transaction fee scroll to the bottom of the pop up window and click confirm.

6. As we can see the transaction is still pending.. Let’s go back to the quick swap tab and wait for the transaction to confirm. Grab a snack this may take a few..

7. Wait for it..

8. BOOOM! LETS GOOOOO…..

STEP 4: IMPORTING THE TOKEN

(you will only have to do this once per new token)

  1. Head over to apeboard.finance

2. Tap on the Metamask icon 🦊

3. Click on “Account 1” you are now copying your public address

4. Now paste the address in the empty bar and click “Go”

5. Once the screen has loaded scroll down to the wallet section.

6. Under assets click on “WETH”

7. When you see the pop up click where it says “add to 🦊”

8. A smart contract should appear on the right hand side click “Add Token”

9. Click on the 🦊 one final time at the top right corner of your screen and under the assets tab it will show your current WETH total

10. Shakaboooooooom

If this all went comfortably for ya and you wish to transfer more tokens. Follow steps 6–15, so you can get more funds in dat wallet and buy yourself a Plutoverse NFT. And follow the link below for Pt. 2
